The WealthGen Advisors team is continually advancing our industry expertise and capabilities. One significant way we achieve this is by pursuing and attaining certifications that place us at the forefront of financial planning innovation.

Certified Financial Planner™

The CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™  certification is granted by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc.

To earn the CFP certification, professionals must initially complete CFP Board Registered Coursework, which generally spans 12 to 18 months. This coursework covers eight main knowledge domains: professional conduct, financial planning, education planning, risk management and insurance planning, investment planning, tax planning, retirement savings and income planning, and estate planning. As of January 1, 2012, a capstone course requiring candidates to develop a financial plan has been added. However, professionals such as licensed attorneys, certified public accountants, chartered financial analysts, chartered financial consultants, chartered life underwriters, doctors of business administration, and Ph.D. holders in finance, economics, business administration, and financial planning may qualify for “accelerated path qualifying credentials” that allow them to bypass the coursework and directly take the CFP examination. Following the coursework or qualifying for the accelerated path, individuals must pass the CFP exam. To earn certification, candidates must also complete 6,000 hours of professional financial planning experience or 4,000 hours of qualifying apprenticeship experience, pass a background check by the CFP Board, pay an application fee of $150, and an annual certification fee of $355. Every two years, certificants are required to complete 30 hours of continuing education to maintain their CFP status and must adhere to the CFP Board’s Code of Ethics and Standards of Conduct to obtain the designation. Additionally, a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is required.
